Tenerife Cabildo has designed a campaign to raise awareness about the care and environmental preservation of Los Gigantes Cliffs, in the municipality of Santiago del Teide.
Vice-president and en-vironment adviser, José Antonio Valbuena said the campaign arose from the initiative of the body of environmental agents and aims to encourage responsible behaviour in the development of the tourist activities, recreational and sport in this zone coastal.”
“We have an illustrative brochure with interesting information about the ecological wealth of the area, which also includes some tips to avoid the affection of the territory and the species that inhabit the area,” he said.
The document incorporates a QR code, through which you can access a broader inter-active dossier on the terrestrial and marine biodiversity of the environment.
Minister of Tourism, Alberto Bernabé, said that “from the tourist point of view, the Los Gigantes cliff area, the Teno Rural Park and the Teno Rascas is a a first class resource for many of the tourist activities offered by Tenerife, such as trekking, or whale watching, which is the second activity practised by tourists who visit us. “
“Turismo de Tenerife has been working with cetacean sighting companies since 2009 to improve the quality and sustainability of this tourist product, through the Cetacean Sighting Quality Charter. These companies also receive specialised training on cetaceans, seabirds, turtles, regulations and digital marketing, among other issues,” he said.
The head of the En-vironmental Management Service, Cristóbal Rodríguez said: “The area of the Cliffs is a jewel for the high bio-diversity, with almost 40 endemic species and with unique species in Teno. We have the obligation to conserve and protect the species and for this we need the resident population and, above all, the visitor to know these values through this type of campaign.”
The brochure will be available soon in the tourist information offices of the municipalities closest to Los Gigantes, as well as in the Teno Rural Park facilities, located in the area of El Palmar (Buena-vista del Norte).
